Ingredients:
- Thankfulness
- Praise
- Scripture
- Perspective
- Worship
- Prayer
- Rest
Notes:
I created my list without counting items and then noticed it has seven ingredients; one for each day of the week. How cool is that? And during your Sabbath hours, you can pull these ingredients together in any order you prefer. You can mix them up, double the portions, share the recipe with others, and season it with your own spices and toppings.
How I will use my ingredients…
For my personal recipe, I begin with lighting candles at dark as we pray a Shabbat prayer in Hebrew, and then my husband and I wish each other Shabbat Shalom before we sing our two songs as the candles glow. (Now, after creating the dove-shaped candlesticks above, I’m wishing I could find something that pretty in real life.)
Next, we rest and visit while the candles burn for about 15 minutes. This is also a good place to read part of the Torah Portion for the week that ends on Saturday at sunset. This week’s portion is called Vayera. It means “And He Appeared” and it’s found in Genesis 18:1-22:24. This links to the Berean Annotated Bible at the Bible Hub website. The reading is about the angels visiting Abraham to tell Sarah she’d have a baby; Abraham preparing a meal for them and learning the fate of Sodom and Gomorrah and begging God’s mercy for Lot and his family; Lot’s wife turning into a pillar of salt; Sarah birthing Isaac; and God’s test of Abraham to sacrifice Isaac. There are also many details between these moments, of course.
The perspective ingredient is important, especially after a week that includes hard emotions and wondering just how God can work something good from threats and changes on the horizon. I found an old blog post from 2016 called God’s Presence Changes Everything, and the perspective there is very comforting. I guess The Lord has been trying to speak that way of thinking to me for a while now.
As I end my week with thankfulness, I’ll season it with more Scripture, a prayer for the coming week (which is actually exciting for me because I’m supposed to be getting to meet my brother’s birth mom as she travels through our area), and some extra sprinkles of worshipful hymns. I even found a page of hymns at Bible Hub at https://biblehub.com/hymns/.
A Few Scriptures About Rest
โ[14] And the Lord answered, โMy Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.โโ
โ Exodus 33:14 BSB
At that time, Jesus declared, …
โ[28] Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. [29] Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. โ
โ[9] There remains, then, a Sabbath rest for the people of God. [10] For whoever enters Godโs rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from His. [11] Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest.โ
I bless you in The Name of YahShua HaMashiach (Jesus The Christ) as you walk with The Lord and mix up this recipe in your own life. ๐๐๐ถ
